Here again. We are Jordi and Amparo, and yes..., we also were there and it
was more terrific and touching than the day before!!! We hope you'll enjoy
our review!
The concert was similar but with some differences. And we can feel a deeper
emotion and a more nostalgic feeling that on Friday, in part because we were
in the first row, resting on in the fence, in front of the piano, with a perfect view of the stage and with a perfect view of Paul.
The show started 20 minutes late, at 9:50 pm instead of 9.30 pm. The show
began again under the powerful music of The Fireman. Then the Hofner figure
and... PAUL IN THE STAGE. When He came in holding his Hofner high above his
head it was again maddening, the crowd screamed and... IT WAS
INDESCRIBABLE!!! PAUL WAS ONLY A FEW METERS FROM US!!! Paul wore jeans, a blue jacket and a red T-shirt again.
Heather and her sister Fiona were during all the concert in front of us. Only with the fence between her and us. Fiona made a lot of photos during
all the concert, and Heather, Fiona and Paul Wickens's wife sang the most
part of the songs. He began with HELLO GOODBYE. After JET, he spoke to audience with a
"HOLA ESPAÑA, BONA NIT BARCELONA" (Hello Spain, in spanish. Good Evening
Barcelona, in catalan), as the night before. Although he spoke many times
in spanish and in catalan, he was not as generous in his speech, but,
instead, he seemed more relaxed, and this allowed more surprises, some yellow
surprises. Paul performed ALL MY LOVING, and after presented
GETTING BETTER saying that
it was the first time he played it in Spain. After he performed COMING
UP and LET ME ROLL IT, that finished with a little jam, unheard in the american
concerts. Then Paul took his blue jacket off leaving it at the stage
floor, and saying "Hace mucho calor" (It's very hot), while The Band performed as
on Friday an "erotic striptease" music. After Let me Roll it, some people asked for
"BESAME MUCHO" but Paul answered:
"Later"
Then he performed songs of his last studio album, LONELY ROAD,
DRIVING RAIN
AND YOUR LOVING FLAME. He played this last song at piano. When he sat down
for playing it, he said in a perfect spanish : APRENDI ESPAÑOL EN LA
ESCUELA, A LOS ONCE AÑOS, CUANDO ERA PEQUEÑO (I learned spanish at
school, when I was eleven, when I was a child). Then he dedicated the song to: "A
LA MEVA DONA HEATHER" (to my wife Heather, in catalan", saying that she was
EXTRAORDINARIA (extraordinary in spanish). Then we enjoyed BLACKBIRD,
EVERY NIGHT and WE CAN
WORK IT OUT. This song
was followed again by the spanish poem from Liverpool Oratorio, "TRES
CONEJOS EN UN ARBOL TOCANDO EL TAMBOR, QUE SI, QUE NO, QUE SI LO HE VISTO
YO!". More songs kindled the audience: YOU NEVER
GIVE ME YOUR MONEY /
CARRY THAT
WEIGHT (with the wrong words like in the USA tour) and THE
FOOL ON THE HILL.
After Fool on the Hill, Paul took the accoustic guitar and began to play a
couple of verses of "BESAME MUCHO". The crowd started also to sing, as the
night before, completing the verses. Paul played then again, a little more
than on Friday, saying also "no, no, no" at the end, but without the
"cha cha boom" last chords. Before HERE TODAY, Paul presented it as a song dedicated to MI AMIGO JOHN
(my friend John in spanish). The crowd began to clap and to shout all together the name of John. And then they started to sing "Give peace a
chance". Paul performed some chords and he moved his hands conducting
people, but also began to sing with the audience, unlike Friday.
The following song, SOMETHING, was dedicated to MI AMIGO GEORGE. Paul appeared with an ukelele, saying that A GEORGE LE GUSTABA EL UKELELE (George
loved ukelele), and again people applauded with emotion, and began to shout
all together the name of George. Amazingly, after Something, the crowd began to shout the name of Ringo. A
funny and surprised Paul said : "BUT RINGO IS WELL", and he laughted, but immediatelly he began to play and sing
YELLOW SUBMARINE. The crowd and The
band (mainly Abe Laboriel Jr) joined Paul with the song. Paul was really
enjoying the show and sharing his emotions with us!!! It was not a complete
song, it was only an entertainment of a couple of verses, but it was really
special for us.
Then Paul performed ELEANOR RIGBY, HERE,
THERE AND EVERYWHERE and
CALIKO SKIES. This lovely song was still better that the night before, with a very
good performing by Paul. Before MICHELLE, Paul also shout: "AHORA VENID CON NOSOTROS A FRANCIA"
(Now come with us to France) BAND ON THE
RUN and BACK IN THE USSR were
shaking!!!. At piano, Paul performed then MAYBE I'M AMAZED and
LET 'EM IN. And MY LOVE
was again dedicated to LINDA and to all people in love.. SHE'S LEAVING
HOME, CAN'T BUY ME LOVE AND... BIRTHDAY!!!
Birthday was presented by Paul Wickens and Paul said "CUMPLEAÑOS FELIZ".
During all the concert, Paul and Heather demonstrated their complicity. Paul
winked at her, and Heather smiled all the time. Before LIVE AND LET DIE
began, Security staff, adviced her to change of place, because of the
firecrackers, and flames, and she moved a little, but at the end she returned in front of us..
LET IT BE!!! Not words for it. Really touching and moving for us, more than
ever, because the proximity of the more fabulous musical genius and compositor in the
world. And the apotheosis, HEY JUDE, when the audience got delighted, with a funny
Paul conducting at the end the male and female sections, and with Heather moving hands with us, in a perfect
conjunction. But... before Hey Jude, Paul surprised us with a small present: a snippet of
BABY FACE. At the end of Hey Jude, when Paul used to say to the crowd "You're
great!", "You're great!", "You're great!", when he arrived to Heather he made a funy
face and a movement of his hand, meaning "you only half great", smiling after
this. In the first encore, back to the stage, Paul changed his t-shirt for
another, the same of the night before, with a white printed message: NO MORE
LANDMINES. He asked to the crowd: "¿QUEREIS MAS? (do you want more?) and the
audience shouted: SI!!!!!!
THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD, LADY MADONNA and
I SAW HER STANDING THERE, completed as always this first encore.
People began to shout again "OE OE OE OE" and "PAUL, PAUL, PAUL", and Paul
and the band appeared again in stage: Paul with a catalonian flag, this time
Brian Ray with a spanish flag, and Paul "Wix" Wickens with a british, and
smaller, flag. YESTERDAY was moving and touching again. And
SGT. PEPPERS/THE END, the
sublime colophon of the show. And this morning, we have received a message in our mobile phone from Paul:
"Hope you had a wonderful time at the concert. It was great to play Barcelona! Checkout the DVD & CD of the show - Back In The World. Gracias!
Paul McCartney"
Thanks to you, SIR PAUL.
